Haha nice one xD

@corocoro: Just go with a SSD and you'll never need the back up.Though that's even more expensive... xD

SSDs have a significantly shorter life span, since they can only be written a low amount of times - not sure I want to go there. :P

poor ppls like me can afford only 1 500gb external hdd >_>

lol...checkmate storage system is overblown >_>

True, that's a huge downside if you use it as a primary HDD. Though considering I'd use an SSD to store data on, the write cycles won't be much of an issue. At least that's the idea xD

You guys at least have a 500GB one, I'm with only 320 xD

hoho , welcome to the poor man's club

compare to checkmate who is aiming for a 40tb storage system, we are like ants !

Meh, I'll just store everything online - saves space at home. :D

O_____________o
40TB? I can't even imagine having 5 let alone 40...what on earth is he trying to build xD

Hmm...interesting xD
Though there are a lot of them coming out each month...
Imagine if he's using raid 1 for all those 40 TB.

As for storing things online...with my upload speed it would take me about a years to upload everything xD

Well, download speed is more important. :P
He's not using Raid 1, but a more complicated version.

True, especially since I rarely upload anything (but that's due to my upload speed so it's all connected :D)
Should have guessed...the more complicated raid solutions require more than 3 HDDs and I don't have that many to even consider them an option xD

yeah download speed is so important, to me at least.
coz i dun have any MU or RS premium accounts, i have to slowly wait for downloads to complete.

Duplicated, hey Tessu please install a counter for this.

I'm currently have 16TB but it's not enough. And I can't expand it anymore. My next storage system will have an initial of 20TB of storage space and expandable anyhwere from 40TB - 60TB.

There's a long story behind my decision, I'll save it later. But I'm the same as you guys, starting with just 1TB of storage space, and thought I'd never use up that space~

Initially, I'd use OpenSolaris for this new storage system, sitting on a 8 cores processor, expandable to 16 cores processing power, and 24GB, expandable to 48GB. 25 bays of Hitachi 2TB HDD

Cryptload helps with that. Just don't run it on any servers.

There's a 45 second time-out for users, but not for staff. If cake would stop having hiccups it wouldn't be needed anyway. :P
And since I can delete those double posts (and normal members can't see them), it's no big deal. ^^

Back~
& i wasn't talking to myself just now ._.
and it jumps a pages after I went away >_>

For some reason I thought I had already, anyways, now it's installed the auto merger.

Up to 60TB? That's insane~ good luck xD
The configuration sounds really interesting^^
Though why did you chose OpenSolaris? (on a side note there was some talk about a new Solaris 11)

Just imagining all that makes my head spin. Do post a picture once you set it up xP

and welcome back everyone^^

Because he wants software raid for the advanced possibilities.

Google this: ZFS. Actually go on youtube and check out ZFS and how Sun Microsystem smack & drills HDD just to demo the ZFS

Interesting, it can sustain 2 failiers and still keep going. I see why you'd chose that ^^
I learn new and interesting things every day xD

But really why did they have to kill them with a hammer instead of just disconnecting them xD

finally can get in =P...was getting time outs
