I lived in Tokyo for 4 years,and now I live in Kyoto.
I think Kyoto has not the place otaku can especially enjoy.
It is just my opinion,Japan has 2 main otaku place.Akiba is one of them.And the other is Nihonbashi.It is in Osaka that is next to Kyoto.I visited Akiba and Nihonbashi several times.
But Akiba is more joyful for otaku than Nihonbashi.There is not much big figures.If you come there,I think it is good that you don't expect more joyful than Akiba.
Nihonbashi has maid cafe,cat cafe,cards shop,animate,and so on.Moe exist there.Many normal figures is being sold.
When you come Japan,it is not bad choice that you visit Nihonbashi.
In addition,I'm living not so far to Nohonbashi lol

I actually quite like the Animate in Shibuya and Ikebukuro, as the new one in Ikebukuro is just been built recently, the 7 floor Animate was amazing to explore goods! Akihabara with the amazing Cospa is where I spent most of my money, probably because Cospa goods are expensive as well! Never been to Nohonbashi before, I might do another time.
