You are planning a new build that is almost 2k, when you probably already have several of the parts from your current build? Are you buying an intel x series or something?

I am debating picking up some more hard drives on cyber money/whatever, but I won't actually need the space for a while. There is a good chance I can make it until next year and then get even more bang for my buck. :)

But still, 2k is a lot. I built a reasonably bad-ass machine for a little over 1k, and I had no prior parts to work with (well I had a monitor). The only thing I can think of is if you are planning to SLI/cross-fire a few GPUs (which both is normally not necessary and not a great idea heat-wise).

Ah, so no actual parts in mind then. Just a potential budget. That makes sense. :)

I think in general I plan on building a new machine every few years. I might as well make a hobby of it.

I've only done it twice so far, but I know enough about computers and want to keep learning, so I think it will be a hobby in the future. I could see myself setting up some servers and running some of my own projects on them in the future.

The best thing about computers is that as far as many other hobbies go, they are cheap! :)
