『This is hard... I'm damn hungry... But I'm too lazy to go out to shop to buy cheese to make myself pizza...』

『Hmmmm... If you try you will actually get your 11111 before his 22222?』

*Yawn*
So tired... I only got 1000 words written for the VN.
Redcat is going to be mad :(

『Writing books/vns is sure tough even if you know what to write >_<』

MadSova ; I believe I can write a good short VN in a span of one day. Not including dialogue.

『Decalcomania ; Vn without dialogs won't be considered full vn. More like a plot for vn. I can write a plot for a short vn of normal quality in half a day.』

『Well, next phase is night so it should be pretty fast...』

Other than lots of drawings, making a VN should be pretty quick and easy compared to just about any other kind of game. :)

『Well, actually if you have art and music and stuff making (writing code) one is pretty easy...』

『A lot easier than most normal games though... And you told me about renpy, right? Making a simple vn with that didn't look that hard...』

Writing a story for a VN is indeed easy. I can do art, music, and story, but I guess coding can be considered difficult. I guess Ren'py is a good program to use though.

Making VN is hard. trust me

The only way I could see it being hard is if you don't have a proper action chart built early on as a guide (like a big whiteboard or file that shows the flow of the game, with branches and such).

Programming wise should be very easy. You would only need to know some basics compared to making an action game or something.

『Well, that atl thingy is pretty difficult, but if you just remember and use only basics it should be fairly easy...』

As far as coding is concerned, I'm guessing you just need some kind of simple menu for choices/dialog to appear in, be able to display images and play audio, and keep track of choices (probably just a point system). Unless VNs are more complicated than I imagine them to be :P

『You know, there is more to vns than just text? You also have transactions between different scenes, write not only when characters appear but how as well. Creating the menu is probably not an easy task too... So the prettier you want the vn to turn out in the end, the more difficult it gets...』

Well yeah, but wouldn't transitions just be drawing the character in different ways? Easiest way I can think of is to load a raster of the imags and then get it to draw and/or move them however you want.

Menu is probably a pain, but shouldn't be all too difficult if you do most of the graphics work outside of the program.

『Hmmmm... You know, if you think it is THAT simple just try to go and make one from some random images? It isn't as difficult as making normal games like action games but it is a real pain cause it takes a lot of time...』

Well, I've manipulated images before, if that is what you mean. I can get the screen to draw it as I like, though obviously you can keep making it more and more complex and it will be harder to figure out. Actually the hardest part would be getting the timing so that it doesn't just instantly draw it. :P I guess I'd have to put a small delay in between each step?

But once you get maybe 4 different methods you like for drawing them, you should be set for your one game, and probably several to come. The beauty of recycling! :)

『Draw? Exactly what and how do you need to draw to make (write the code) vn..?』
