『Draw? Exactly what and how do you need to draw to make (write the code) vn..?』

Hmm that is how you say to make it appear. If you have a raster, each pixel is basically some information, and then you get the program to "draw" the image to screen after you load the image to a raster (an array, one or two dimensional). Kind of like how you "print" messages.

『Ugh... Guess my skills are actually even lower than I thought... I seriously don't get what you mean >_<』

Hmm... and i know about nothing about that... but if im excited about something... i can get a story down within a day... assuming i have the inspiration to do so... then ill work out the details as i go~

Well to be fair, I've never actually written the initial work to load the image to raster. I got that from a .jar, and then played with random images after that. We had an assignment to write some simple image filters to process them differently (sharpen, add grain, etc.), nothing fancy.

samyeung46; yeah I can imagine you would be a story power-house. :)

Hmm... i can imagine what youre trying to say but never written code before so idk what exactly everything is xD

I likes writing xD Can go nutsy for long whiles... Though i wonder... Ehh im sort of a slow typer =w=

『Still... Writing with computers is so easy... A few decades before people had to use them writing machines to write books... And I don't think there was any way other than throwing a way a piece of paper and writing a new one when something was wrong...』

You could use white-out, MadSova; My mom would use stuff like that on typewriters.

The only way I could see it being hard is if you don't have a proper action chart built early on as a guide (like a big whiteboard or file that shows the flow of the game, with branches and such).

Programming wise should be very easy. You would only need to know some basics compared to making an action game or something.

Programming is easy. Implementing new feature is not.

Making story is hard. Making branches is quite easy if you have made the story. but you still need to determine how the branching system is. for example, FATE uses point system

About graphic, it's quite hard making lot of asset for VN. Sprites for many characters, Event CG, Background, menu buttons, UI layout, so many things to do.

Music... hmm can't say anything about this. I don't have any experience in music

Hmm... well first is the outline... then determining events... and adding dialogue... changing stuff as you go...

That is why I originally said, other than lots of artwork (music included) I don't see anything hard about it. Making a point system is logical and easy. You can have certain branches that only work with certain choices too, which doesn't add much complexity.

Like anything else, you can make it as tedious as you want by adding layers, but in the end it should be simple scripting with lots of images, unless you add minigames or something (does that happen in VNs?)

『Still, using white-out isn't stylish...』

『P.S. Please don't mention/quote me. I read all posts in this thread anyway...』

Hmm... saw some demonstration of people using some odd software that mightve been... useful for making the chart... not that i remember much of it =w=

making the core of the game is easy. but making Scene Replay, Gallery, etc is not very easy

actually making any games, including VN from scratch is hard. that's why game engine exist

@madd Sorry, I'll keep that in mind :)

thecoins; That is what I'm talking about. Those are just extra frills. You can add as much as you want, and the work will naturally expand. :P And yeah I've made my share of (horrible) games using the old Game Maker engine when I was in Jr. High. I think Game Maker is still around, even (wasn't Hotline Miami made on it?). :)

game maker is quite decent engine now. also we have Unity, Flixel, Flashpunk, and other good and free game engine today.

『Yeah, thanks... All those notifications were kinda making me mad ^_^』

『3:40am... I'm finally getting slightly sleepy...』

I tend to skip through tons of pages here, so I had no idea you bothered to read all of these thousands of posts. XD

Game Maker was half decent for what I used it for too. I tried making an RPG once and gave up pretty fast though. It was too difficult to get the battle system operational. Once I learn more programming, I might give making something like that a go again eventually. :D

『That happens a lot to me Samye xD』

『And spam here is pretty chaotic and mad so its actually fun to read.:goodtea: Btw, wanna know a secret? I'm the biggest spammer in this thread...

『I wonder how many days/nights more will this phase last...』

『From 7:30am till 4:40pm. Is that long?』
