I will go with your suggestion and put Bismarck in again.
The reason I use an extra DD is cause of FCF.

Ayanami > Hatsushimo

Shigure 2nd fleet run, failed.
- Shigure got orange'd on night node.
- Continue to M and a torp lands a bingo to my Hatsushimo. Retreat.

Ooyodo > Jintsuu
Shigure > Bismarck

Bismarck 2nd fleet, the most lucky run yet.
She actually got her butt kicked. If only this lucky happening is my final run.

- Continue to M and went with Double Line formation, only Yamato got orange'd. 2nd fleet, dodges everything.
- Boss miss both of her day shots. But night, Bismarck got orange'd. 5th slot Yukikaze CI and done.

No like I wanted her but oh well, she came. *locked*

The Air Battle Node at E-5(Node F) is fine as far as I've went there, Kaga with 2 Reppus and 1 Torpedo Bomber does fine.

There's only one enemy CV in there so the exchange is pretty weird.

It is recommended. From my experience so far, Air Princess and the 2 CVs has yet to land any damage on my fleet using that formation. If you're unlucky, closing torpedoes are the ones sending you back.

You can always try sparkle run.

And to answer your question. I'd say no. The problem lies on the first node where if any of your girls get orange'd, she will most probably get hit to red on air node.

Princess did quite a number on me when I use Double Line especially when AACI fails to trigger, that's the signal telling you to give up the run.

What's worst is we have close to 0% of actually disabling her to save the escort fleet from harm. Her evasion is just too high for combined fleet.

I did get medium damage on 1-2 ships a few times, but really not that often.
I'm running on easy though, didn't feel like I needed an extra flying boat.

Or you know, there is about 2 weeks left so you suck it up and farm up the ships you can use to avoid one battle. It isn't about the node itself being hard, but about the resource consumption and the fact that your comp isn't particularly worse off for any other nodes.

Sometimes there are semi-traps with these ship specific routing methods, but more often than not they are put in with a reason for you to want to use them. It'll take a huge handicap to outweight the advantages of a 3 fight route vs 4 fight.

With how AA works, using Diamond in any non air strike node and thinking there is a result for it is just luck. Even with air supremacy and AA cutin, there are no guarantees that the shelling phase will see CVs disabled from planes being shot down. Nor does the formation offer anything inherent in itself for dodge. In the end, the only realistic way of dealing with the node is to suck up the preempt and hope to slug carriers down first.

Or in other words, it doesn't change a thing and you dodged simply because you dodged. The E6 farm setups from Japanese boards and matome sites are all using the line ahead equivalent formation through the whole map.

Sure I can clear all but princess with Double Line but that also gives her a higher chance of landing hits on my girls.

For me so far,

Double Line + AACI = someone will get orange'd / red. No escape even for Yamato-class.
Diamond + AACI = only torpedoes to worry about if fail to take out her bottom 3 escorts.

Even so, I feel getting Amatsukaze is more worth than wasting my resources which look like this

Except there is plenty of time and you come out ahead resource count wise, probably sanity too.

I edited it in above but all of the JP farming comps are running line ahead through the whole map. You don't deal with carriers by praying for them to miss, you deal with them by hitting them harder.

Also double line is the biggest trap ever for combined fleet, useful only for extremely niche situations. Prayers for RNG are all better off used on hoping for your stuff to hit the right targets in line ahead.

3cv or 2cvl are both pretty popular, I think people just switch between them as they get bored of one.

By hitting carriers harder. It'd be nice if Diamond actually worked the way you seem to think it works, but it doesn't. Again, there is no way for you to guarantee disabling CVs by reducing plane count, particularly not for shelling phase. It doesn't work even if you get air supremacy + AA cutin. The formation doesn't have any real built in defensive bonuses either, the things that you dodged would've probably been dodged in any other formation. Rather than hoping to dodge, you might as well as line ahead for your damage to actually mean something.

The only thing that Diamond has a significant advantage over other formations lies in reducing plane count for preempt damage.

Your mistake is assuming that grinding actually uses a lot of resources when you are easily able to keep up with natural regen and non-kira'd standard expeditions, if not come out ahead. Facetanking fails for event while using support, on the other hand...

Well, I haven't try using Carrier Task fleet. How much can CVs do against Hard boss, that I don't know. My Kaga always lost all her attack planes on boss, she will miss even if she has some left.

I don't think we can have more than 1 CV for Surface Task?

1cv or 2cvl for that, as you can expect, it is just 2cvl reppuu mules. Also I edited in the full responses to the post before.

Looks like there are even more aggressive 4cv methods that basically devote 1~2 carriers entirely to offense for carrier task fleets. Probably not for those faint of heart in the baux consumption realm.

I love to see a hardcore 4CV against Hard boss, what can they actually do seriously. It's over as soon as they got hit to orange'd minus Taihou.

E3 hard was stupid easy though, all perfect runs with 2 lvl 30 ships :/

Actually it looks like 4cv is decently popular, Kaga and Taihou loaded to the brim with attacking planes. You blow through 6~700 baux a run though since it isn't aiming for air supremacy.

1red3radar is overkill, you won't do damage to anything important. 1~2 radar probably good enough. That said, E6 farming people are skimping to as little as no support or just 2dd2cvl econ boss support only.

lol forgot for a moment that E6 doesn't lock. Instinctively wanted to conserve.

Done with E-3 hard too. I wonder what ships I should send out for E-4. The ship-locking isn't over yet :/

Also, disappointingly, I haven't had any rare ship drops thus far. And I've cleared the maps on Hard.

And I'm just sitting here and leveling my Suzuya.
Switched from Medium to Easy E-5 as RNG trolled me. This several times when I were able to get to boss node my girls did almost no damage.. They even didn't kill all small mobs.. :gokiko_stone:
