Well, if you were with me, I don't really mind if you have to apologise or say thank you. Unless your actions were beyond the point of trouble would I see the need for an apology. Giving thanks are only if you feel really grateful for what another person has said or done. With some people, they use these words sparingly, but I use it quite often as long as my words have weight or meaning behind them, otherwise apologising or thanking someone would be meaningless.

i think words should be taken seriously too but because im too honest about it ppl think im in a bad mood or being a jerk at times for not saying thanks for something or other >.> i cant help it if i dont feel thankful when someone tries to help but screws things up w/o even realizing it T_T
