That really depends on the character you want to render and the image resolution.
For me, it varies from a couple of minutes to an hour or 2 =/

I stopped rendering characters a long long time ago

last time I did it the normal way it took an hour or more.

just don't have that time anymore.

I just use png images or use simple background jpegs then just use the wand tool to do it in a single motion.
