Volume 7: "The Magenta Girls and the Sun Warriors" | Special Chapter 13: "Ginga's Journey (Part 1): Nagoya"
The next day, at Mizuho-ku, Ginga, Atsuki and Sōichi are going to the local basketball court that was located near the Showa High School. They were a lot of basketball players playing in the court against each other. Some were junior college students, but others were young students coming from elementary school and high school.
Ginga, Atsuki and Sōichi would be thrilled to see a familiar face. It was Tetsuro Yamaguchi, a former player from the Ōta Blue Wind. Tetsuro Yamaguchi played with the Blue Wind for four years and was part of the championship team last season.
“Hey, look who’s here!” said Ginga.
“It’s Tetsuro Yamaguchi!” said Atsuki.
“He’s training some of his boys from his own basketball camp” said Sōichi.
“Let’s reach him out” said Ginga.
Atsuki and Sōichi nod on their faces. “Okay!”
Ginga, Atsuki and Sōichi walk to the court to meet with Tetsuro Yamaguchi.
“Oh! Ginga! It’s nice to see you again!” said Tetsuro.
“Yep. I’m retiring from basketball after we helped together to lead the Ōta Blue Wind into the Kanto Regional Basketball League Division 2. What about you? Are you still playing?” said Ginga.
“Of course not, Ginga! I’m still playing basketball. I’m currently playing on a new team” said Tetsuro.
“What team are you playing right now?” asked Atsuki.
“I’m currently part of the Omiya Golden Wings basketball team as a backup power forward” said Tetsuro.
“Well, you’re about to get old right now, Tetsuro. How will you last for your team?” said Sōichi.
“I might be planning to stay with them for another year since we’re behind the Top 5 teams in the league” said Tetsuro.
“Have you ever planned to train these young guys out here?” asked Atsuki.
“Yes, of course, Atsuki-san. I was assigned to train these guys for a project of my own” said Tetsuro.
“I guess that you’re born in this city, Tetsuro” said Ginga.
“Yeah, Ginga-san. I was born there, raised and currently residing here in Mizuho, Nagoya” said Tetsuro.
“That was so nice, Tetsuro. I hope that when you’ll retire soon, you’ll have to help them grow their potential to become superstars in the future” said Atsuki.
“You got it, Atsuki-san! I’m already 33 years old and I’m still playing without losing my motivation” said Tetsuro.
“I agree. Now, the main reason why we’re all here is because I already started scouting some young players around the country. I would be glad if I’m going to scout and train them” said Ginga.
“Well, you can do that whatever you want. I would be glad that you’ll help them to make themselves stronger when they’re going pro” said Tetsuro.
“Okay!” said Ginga before he would talk to Atsuki and Sōichi. “Atsuki. Sōichi. Let’s train and scout them!”
“Okay!” said Atsuki and Sōichi.
Ginga, Atsuki and Sōichi would start observing the young players coming from different schools. In one time, Tetsuro talks to Kyōtarō Okanishi, a first year middle school student from the Todoroki Gakuen High School.
“I want you to shoot the ball like this” said Tetsuro as he demonstrates the jump shot of his own. Kyōtarō would show his shooting move as he releases the ball while jumping high from the ground. The ball drives to the basket.
“I did it, Tetsuro-sensei!” said Kyōtarō Okanishi.
“That’s good. Now, all you have to do is making the fadeaway shot like” said Tetsuro. Tetsuro would step back before shooting the ball with the fadeaway. “Now, give it a try.”
“Okay!” said Kyōtarō. Kyōtarō would do the way Tetsuro did and it was successful. “And I did it again!”
“Nice job, Kyōtarō! You made the job done! Hopefully, you’ll be able to use that shot when you’re open in the corner or the post” said Tetsuro.
“Okay!” said Kyōtarō.
As Kyōtarō gets his boost in shooting outside shots in the paint, Ginga writes his comment on Kyōtarō’s shooting ability. Then, Atsuki and Sōichi teach the young boys to perform playmaking skills while Ginga gives them some advises, in making their potential grater in the future.
While the young boys are getting busy, a yellow-haired boy approaches to meet Ginga. Ginga was unfazed when he sees that guy.
“What is your name?” asked Ginga.
The yellow-haired boy would say his name. “My name is Keisuke Nishio. I’m a fourth grader student from the Todoroki Gakuen Elementary School.”
Ginga would understand the name of the little boy before saying to him. “It’s nice to see you. So, what do you want to know?”
“I want to know about the basic skills in inside shooting” said Keisuke.
“Okay, I will accept your question, Keisuke” said Ginga.
“Really. Wow! Thanks. I don’t know what to say, but can I tell your name?” said Keisuke. Keisuke doesn’t know Ginga yet.
Ginga smiles to Keisuke with his charisma never paid off. “My name is Ginga Hasegawa. But you can call me Ginga if you want. I’m a two-time champion in the Tokyo Prefectural Basketball League with the Ōta Brave Warriors and the Ōta Blue Wind.”
Keisuke would finally understand Ginga’s name for the first time. So, Keisuke smiles to Ginga. “Oh, okay. Thanks, Ginga-san. Now, tell it to me about inside shooting.”
“Okay! Now, in order to shoot the ball inside the zone, there are two things you can do. One is to do the layup and two is to do the dunk” said Ginga.
“Have you learned those moves?” asked Keisuke.
“Of course not, Keisuke! I’m learning to shoot layups, floaters and runners, but also I’m good in dunking the ball with one hand” said Ginga. Ginga would continue to explain his answer while Keisuke looks confident to know inside shooting. “To shoot the ball with the layup, you must be good in defending the court with your moves. Getting an easy layup would allow you get points in the game. Also, if you’re agile to shoot, then you’ll be able to get the job done after going to the right spot to shoot. On the other hand, to shoot the ball with the dunk, you must be more capable of jumping in the court. If you’re too small in your height, you can’t dunk the ball yet. But if you develop your athleticism, you’ll be able to dunk.”
“Well, that was too long to explain, but I get it now” said Keisuke.
“When you’re shooting the ball inside the paint, you’ll get easy scoring for your team. Just like my old friends in Ōta, they know how to develop themselves from shooting easy shots in the paint. I know that you’ll know their skills before you’ll inspire them” said Ginga.
“I will have to try that skill, Ginga, but thanks for that advice” said Keisuke.
“You’re welcome” said Ginga. Keisuke smiles to Ginga, thanking him before leaving.
Later, a pick-up game between the two teams in the court. The players wearing white shirts are more aggressive while the other team wearing orange shirts are good in playmaking. Keisuke and Kyōtarō are wearing orange shirts while playing in the court.
Keisuke would shoot the ball with the easy layups with the help of his two schoolmates from Todoroki while Kyōtarō performs the fake on his opponent before doing the iso move to drive away from him and shoots the ball with the fadeaway shot.
“That guy seemed to be talented, Ginga. He’s also to shoot the ball with his motivation” said Atsuki.
“What that yellow-haired guy is surely going to be a beast when he’s on the run” said Sōichi.
“I agree to those statements, Atsuki and Sōichi. They’re just that good with their moves, using their attributes they have. I would be great if they have a lot of potential to improve their moves when they grow up” said Ginga.
“I guess so, but it depends on their role in the team” said Atsuki.
“Probably, they’re going to see some strong players just like the other areas in Kanto, but I would be rest assured that these guys in Nagoya may have a lot of potential to grow when they’re joining the ranks with the top teams in the future” said Sōichi.
“Yeah, that’s true, Sōichi. I hope that they’re about to take over the court once they’re good enough to improve their skills and attributes, using their tendencies to show their mastery. I bet these gems may end up getting picked by top teams and probably, they’re going to give them a test to play for them” said Ginga.
“If I remember correctly, some local leagues have that kind of system, but for the top leagues, they invest players through their own scouting just like they have in football. It may be way competitive when it comes to free agency singings that will complete their roster for the season” said Atsuki.
“I would love to see them growing their potential, Ginga. Like in bigger cities, they’re going to show they have done with their moves. It would be a big catch for them to get signed by either local or bigger teams, depends on their abilities and their performance in collegiate leagues around the country” said Sōichi.
“I bet that I agree with the other, Sōichi. There are many collegiate scouts working to find their big names to join the team. This would give them an opportunity to train them and then, when they’re about to graduate, they’ll have their own worlds to decide on” said Ginga.
“On the bright side, Ginga, some players started underrated and they have gone improving with their new moves they taught from their mentors” said Atsuki.
“Mentors would allow these young guys to get trained more, in order to make them stronger through their untapped potential system. A lot of developing players have gone doing that when their team is considered contending for the championship” said Sōichi.
“According to some analysts, many players started to grow their potential when they go a monstrous performance against their opponents on a big game. A big game can make a big impact on the players from both players. This was applied to the final four of the prefectural tournaments and even, summer leagues around the country except for colder areas such as Hokkaido and Aomori” said Ginga.
“I agree about the big games, Ginga. When we’re young, we used to get monstrous performances in big games in Ōta. I bet that we never got paid off when we got signed by a prefectural league team” said Atsuki.
“Yeah, Hirose-san. That’s what they do in the local leagues when they have flexibility, athleticism and intangibles improved during an intense training. I would conclude that these players may end up getting boosts in their tendencies while allowing to have new abilities in their play” said Ginga.
“The other thing is that the players who have low ratings may end up impressing the scouts if they want to prove themselves to be better” said Sōichi.
“That’s right, Sōichi-san. It feels like we’re getting a lot of young players that have good potential in their future. Also, thanks to Tetsuro, these players might end up getting their own runs while keeping it real to be motivated as what Tetsuro said” said Ginga.
“Of course, they’ll do that, Ginga!” said Sōichi.
“From my observation of those guys, I think that they’re ready to get balling with their moves when they’re heading to college and eventually, the league” said Atsuki.
“I agree. In fact, this will shape the future of basketball in our country to be brighter as always” said Ginga.
“Yeah!” said Atsuki and Sōichi.
Ginga, Atsuki and Sōichi would continue watching the pick-up game, which is eventually won by the players wearing orange shirts. Later, a drill activity was set where the players from two groups will test their strength in shooting the ball. Another activity would be the fast break intense play. This will allow the players to show their playmaking skills in the court by doing the pass-and-assist play and the easy pick pocketing play.
After the young players are exhausted, they would be given water breaks. Ginga, Atsuki, Sōichi and Tetsuro would give the young boys some bottled water, so that these young boys will not get dehydrated.
Later, the four men would give the young players a tour to different indoor gymnasiums in the city. This also includes the Nagoya Higashi Sport Center, Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium, Biwajima Sport Center and Daido Steel Hoshizaki Gym. They even visit the Aichi Mizuho College Gymnasium, which was used by the basketball program of their school, and the Mizuho Gymnasium.
As it reaches five in the afternoon, Ginga, Atsuki, Sōichi and Tetsuro give the young boys some free shirts for their souvenir. The young boys would thank them for meeting them earlier.
Before they would move on to their next destination later in the evening, they would go to the local restroom in the Showa High School. Even it’s summer, the school still would be closed by six in the evening.
Suddenly, as he goes out of the restroom, a young lavender-haired girl would bump onto him.
Ginga and a young lavender-haired girl scratch their heads after getting bumped with each other. “Ow!”
“That hurts. Watch were you going!” said the young lavender-haired girl.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t know that you’re going to the restroom to take a break” said Ginga.
“Yeah” said the young lavender-haired girl. Then, she notices something on Ginga. “Hmmm. Is that a rubber band you’re wearing?”
“Oh, yes. That is mine. Why did you ask for that?” said Ginga.
“Well, I want to know if there is a shop, I need to go to buy that rubber band” said the young lavender-haired girl.
“I see. Well, there is a sports shop located in Yandomichi Shopping District. That’s where you can buy some accessories for yourself” said Ginga.
“Oh, okay! Thanks! By the way, I will introduce myself before I’ll go” said the young lavender-haired girl.
“Okay, then” said Ginga.
The lavender-haired girl would introduce to Ginga as Kira Ōgaki. “My name is Kira Ōgaki. I’m only seven years old and I’m a fan of basketball. Also, I love pop music, mostly in anime.”
“Nice to meet you, Kira. My name is Ginga Hasegawa. So, you can call me Ginga-san if you want” said Ginga.
“Okay! Well, I have to go now, Ginga” said Kira Ōgaki.
“Sure!” said Ginga.
“Bye, Ginga!” said Kira Ōgaki as she cheerfully leaves to go to the restroom. Ginga feels confident that he finally meets a young girl, who is more compared to Tomoka.
Then, Atsuki and Sōichi arrives later after finishing taking a toilet break.
“Ginga, are you alright?” asked Atsuki.
“Well, I can’t believe that I’m okay right now. I know that it hurts my head, but I’m good” said Atsuki.
“Oh, I see” said Atsuki and Sōichi.
“So, about that, who do you talk with?” asked Sōichi.
“It’s a young girl named Kira Ōgaki. She’s on a young age and she loves to play with her friends every weekend” said Ginga.
“Wow! That gal seems to be cheerful. I mean, she had high hopes to play basketball” said Atsuki.
“But of course, Atsuki. She is always wearing rubber bands when she’s entering school” said Ginga.
“Ah, that’s nice” said Atsuki.
“Well, I hope that you’ll be able to scout her. I mean, she has a lot of things about basketball just like your son had” said Sōichi.
“I think it is a yes, Sōichi. But anyway, what should we do next?” said Ginga.
“Shall we go to a restaurant to treat these young guys?” asked Sōichi.
“You bet!” said Ginga.
Later, Ginga, Atsuki, Sōichi and Tetsuro accompanies the young boys to a restaurant known as the Slice and Dice with Chiaki Ishikawa in Yandomichi Shopping District. At that restaurant, it specializes flame-grilled dishes as well as barbeques and skewers. They also cook tebasaki and red miso.
While he was fall in line, Ginga would order his food before he receives the food from the waitress. As he sits down with Atsuki, Sōichi and Tetsuro, a young garnet-haired guy, who looks resembled to his son Subaru, approaches Ginga. He would be joined by Kira Ōgaki.
“Well, it appears that this girl is following you” said Tetsuro.
“Oh! I never saw that coming, but hey, she’s just buying a rubber band” said Ginga.
“Yep. Shinobu Miyamoto and I were buying some accessories and gears at the sports shot you said earlier” said Kira.
“It was nice to see her happy” said the garnet-haired boy.
“Well, don’t mention it. I believe that she’s much cute, aren’t she?” said Ginga.
“Yep” said the garnet-haired boy. He would continue to talk to Ginga as he introduces himself just like Kira did. “By the way, my name is Shinobu Miyamoto. I’m a student from the Todoroki Gakuen Elementary School, playing for my school’s basketball team.”
Ginga shakes hands with Shinobu before talking to him. “It’s nice to see you, Shinobu-san. My name is Ginga Hasegawa. And this is my friends of mine. Atsuki Hirose. Sōichi Maeyama. And finally, Tetsuro Yamaguchi.”
“Oh, I recognize Yamaguchi-san, Ginga. He’s aiming to become a trainer once he retires from basketball soon” said Shinobu Miyamoto.
“I’m sure that your statements are true, Shinobu. I’m already having a plan but enough talking about this. For now, it’s great that you’re here to enjoy our day” said Tetsuro.
“Yeah!” said Shinobu.
“Where are you from, little girl?” asked Sōichi.
Kira doesn’t know about Ginga’s friends, but she gives in. “I’m from Mizuho. My family had been living in that area for a long time. Oh, by the way, if you don’t know me yet, I’ll introduce myself. My name is Kira Ōgaki and I’m a girl who loves basketball and music.”
“Nice to meet you, Kira-san. And I believe that you have talent in basketball, right?” said Sōichi.
“Yeah” said Kira.
“Well, you have in luck because we got an MVP in our table” said Sōichi.
“Of course, I’m the MVP. I didn’t mention about that earlier” said Ginga, who is laughing nervously.
“Oh, I get it now. So, you retired from basketball, isn’t that right?” said Kira.
“Yeah” said Ginga.
“Then, I want to know that you have a lot of moves you learned in the past. I want to do the same thing, but I didn’t know it yet” said Kira.
“I understand what you’re saying, Kira-san. You see, my son Subaru had taught a little girl named Tomoka the moves he had including the jump shot. I bet that you can have that shot too” said Ginga.
“Then, teach it to me! I know that you’re strong!” said Kira.
“I believe in you, Kira-san. I must let you know that I retired. I’m currently busy because I’m currently travelling around the country with my friends. But since you’re admired and cute, I will teach you the moves I got” said Ginga.
Kira was surprised to hear Ginga’s words, which makes her motivate to have a basketball move soon. “Okay!”
“But before that, let’s eat first!” said Shinobu Miyamoto.
“Okay!” said Ginga, Atsuki, Sōichi and Tetsuro.
Later, Shinobu and Kira would sit beside Ginga while they would be joined by Atsuki, Sōichi and Tetsuro. They eat their food together before they feel good when they ate the last bite of it.
“I never heard that you’re a little girl to play basketball, Kira-san. How did you start playing that sport?” said Ginga.
Kira Ōgaki would smile to Ginga after liking his question. “I’m glad that you asked me for that. Well, then, I’ll tell you a story.” Kira would explain her answer to Ginga, Atsuki, Sōichi and Tetsuro. “When I was walking in the streets, I was able to see the view of the city every time I finished my time in school. But one day, a basketball was rolled over and it stops at my shoes. Then, I was found out that I finally met Shinobu Miyamoto.”
“Then, how did you meet her?” asked Atsuki.
“When I was playing a pick-up game with my friends, I was able to enjoy it by winning matches to keep the court for our team. So, when I asked Kira to get the ball back, she respectfully passes the ball to me. I believe that Kira was using her hands to pass the ball. I’m surprised to see her pass that was resembled to mine. And that’s why Kira would finally start playing basketball with me in a one-on-one match.” Shinobu would explain about how he and Kira met with each other.
“When I played basketball for the first time, it was awesome, and I found out that I finally had a friend who played basketball” said Kira.
“That seems to be interesting with your relationship with him, Kira” said Sōichi.
“Even that you’re young, you’re not yet the right time to be with him for a long time” said Tetsuro.
“Oh! I never expect to say that word, but I wasn’t afraid of him after all” said Kira.
“Kira is cheerful to me and she never been shy at all” said Shinobu.
“I understand what you said, Kira. You must be more motivated when it comes to boys like him” said Atsuki.
“Of course, not! I have two older brothers taking the admiration of me because they’re ambitious to girls every time they see them” said Kira.
“Are they ambitious enough to admire girls?” asked Sōichi.
“Yeah!” said Kira.
“It was great to have Kira on my side after she impressed me of my moves. That’s why the two of us are hoping to work together someday” said Shinobu.
“Good for you, Shinobu and Kira! I hope that your will have your team to create. If you’re going to build your team, they need to synchronize with each other through communication and teamwork” said Ginga.
“Yeah!” said Shinobu and Kira.
“I think that I’m done eating right now” said Tetsuro before he stands up.
As Tetsuro is about to leave the table, Ginga asks him. “Where are you going?”
“I have to meet the young boys about what to do for tomorrow. I’ll be back for a while” said Tetsuro.
“Okay, Yamaguchi-san!” said Ginga.
“So, Ginga, do you have children in your family?” asked Kira.
“Yes, I have. My wife and I have our only child. His name is Subaru Hasegawa. He wants to follow my footsteps in becoming the best player in the ward. As you all know, I’m the best player in Ōta by the time when I bagged the championship with Keishin three times in a row” said Ginga.
“What level is Subaru?” asked Kira.
“He’s currently a fifth grader in Kasuragi. He’s not graduated yet, but he’s planning to enroll to a bigger school after he graduates from elementary school” said Ginga.
“Wow! Good for him, Ginga-san. I’m sure that he’s going to push his career going high if he’s going to score more points coming off from the bench. I think that he’s going to be a great guy to watch out” said Kira.
“Yeah, I agree!” said Ginga.
“I will let you know that I had been planning on joining the basketball team in Todoroki if I’m good enough to show my skills, but I’m just started to have practice, thanks to Shinobu” said Kira.
“Well, if you want to improve your skills, then you have to keep on practicing your moves, so that you’ll master in the end. Isn’t that easy?” said Ginga.
“Yeah, I want to do this, Ginga, so that when I’m growing up, I’ll be joining the basketball team very soon’ said Kira.
“Kira is always energetic when it comes to watching basketball games at home, but also she’s passionate to play music. I think that she’s interested in those hobbies, Ginga” said Shinobu.
“Oh, I get it now. So, Kira, do you want to get your skills improved?” said Ginga.
“Yeah!” said Kira.
“Then, come at the basketball court tomorrow at ten in the morning. I’m going to leave Nagoya to go back home at noon. Okay?” said Ginga.
“Okay, Ginga-san!” said Kira.
“Alright, that’s great! Then, I’ll accompany her to make sure that she’s ready to show her moves to you!” said Shinobu.
“Well, be my guest, Shinobu. I’m sure that you and Kira would get along in the court, but when you guys grow up, then you’ll be delighted to have guts to show your moves. Then, by the end of the day, you’ll have a courage in your heart once I’ll teach some moves to you” said Ginga.
“Giving a courage to make me delighted to play basketball with you, Ginga. I don’t want to lose my courage after all!” said Kira.
“Yeah! So, I’ll be waiting for you to meet tomorrow, Kira and Shinobu. Let’s make this training some special for you two” said Ginga.
“You got it!” said Kira and Shinobu.
The next day, at the local basketball court in Mizuho, Ginga shows his moves to Kira. He demonstrates the crossover move and the behind the back move. Later, Kira would start practicing those moves until she finally learns it perfectly. Then, Ginga would perform the layup and the floater, respectively. Kira would be able to improve her inside scoring by increasing her acceleration when going to shoot the ball with the layup and the floater. Ginga was impressed of Kira’s moves when he sees her athleticism. Shinobu would also be taught by Ginga when Ginga shows his moves to Shinobu to do the same moves he demonstrated those to Kira earlier. And to Ginga’s surprise, Shinobu would never miss his moves.
Finally, a two-on-one match between Ginga and Kira and Shinobu. Despite he retired from basketball, Ginga was able to play hard with his courage in his heart. Kira and Shinobu was able to work together with the moves they learned from Ginga and were able to score points together. At the end, Kira and Shinobu win the match after Kira passes the ball to Shinobu with the bounce pass before Shinobu goes for the contact layup over Ginga to score the final point of the match.
Ginga, Kira and Shinobu were exhausted after the match and they were able to enjoy themselves, smiling to each other.
“Man, that was awesome!” said Shinobu.
“It feels like playing basketball with Ginga was so much fun!” said Kira.
“Yep. I have been playing basketball for years when I was young, but now I can teach the young guys to learn the moves. I’m pleased with your performance, Kira and Shinobu. Well done!” said Ginga.
Kira and Shinobu smile to Ginga after Ginga was delighted to see their performance great during the one-on-two match. “Thank you very much, Ginga-san!”
“I can’t wait to show my new moves when I’m going to team up with my friends once we’re having a match against my opponents soon” said Shinobu.
“As for me, I’ll have to keep on practicing my moves, especially the floater, which was so fantastic!” said Kira.
“Well, you can use those moves when you’re in the court play with your friends to show how it’s done. That’s the key to get your fighting spirit in playing basketball” said Ginga.
“You betcha, Ginga-san!” said Kira and Shinobu.
“Always use your fighting spirit to give more strength to play hard in the court. You don’t want to forget this key. I believe in you, guys!” said Ginga.
“Okay! I’ll remember this, Ginga-san!” said Kira and Shinobu.
Atsuki would run to meet with Ginga. “Ginga-san!”
“Oh, Hirose-san. What is it?” asked Ginga.
“It’s already 11:34! We must go back home to Tokyo!” said Atsuki.
“Oh, my goodness! I never thought about this that I have trained for a long hour. Okay, then, I’ll wait for me, Hirose-san” said Ginga.
“Sure, Ginga-san” said Atsuki.
Ginga would pack his things including his basketball he used earlier and then, he goes on a little minute of shower. Then, he changes his clothes from plain white shirt to casual shirt to fit his style when he’s going home. Ginga would meet Kira and Shinobu as he is about say goodbye to them. “I’m going to leave now, Kira and Shinobu. My friends are waiting for me to go back home to Tokyo.”
“Oh, that’s unfortunate, Ginga-san. I believe that I have to work hard in practicing my moves and I have to remember your advice earlier” said Kira.
“I think that I would do the same thing Kira said, Ginga-san” said Shinobu.
“I understand, guys. But you know what, I’m so proud of the two of you when you made your moves so fantastic. I can’t believe that you have a potential in becoming a basketball superstar in the future. You’ll be able to get courage of being a superstar when you grow up” said Ginga.
“Okay, we got it, Ginga-san!” said Kira and Shinobu.
Kira would finally give a red rubber band to Ginga. “By the way, Ginga-san, I want to give this to you.”
As Ginga looks at the red rubber band, he’s finally getting courage too to thank Kira. “Oh, that’s marvelous, Kira! I never thought how I wore this when I was playing in high school, but that will make me remembered of wearing this. Thanks, Kira-san. Where did you buy it anyway?”
“I bought it in the sporting shop in Yandomichi Shopping District. You must remember me when you’re wearing this” said Kira.
“Sure, Kira. I’ll wear it!” said Ginga.
“Ginga-san, I know that you’re going to travel around the country, but I hope that you’ll be able find more players with potential being superstars in the future. So, that’s why you must keep up the good work in becoming a great scout in the country” said Shinobu.
“Okay. I’ll have to do it with your advice. Thanks for that, Shinobu-san” said Ginga.
“You’re welcome!” said Shinobu.
Before Ginga leaves, he finally gives Kira and Shinobu the picture of his championship team last season. “Before I go, this is for you, Kira and Shinobu. That’s the picture of my former team’s championship roster when I led the Ōta Blue Wind into a championship. You must remember this picture as a farewell gift to me. Okay?”
“Okay!” said Kira and Shinobu.
“I’ll never forget that we meet each other, Ginga-san!” said Kira.
“You’re the man who has high hopes and dreams to become a scout! We believe in you!” said Shinobu.
“Thanks, guys! You are kind to say that” said Ginga, smiling to Kira and Shionbu with courage. “Now, I have to go now. Remember the advice that I give it you. See you soon!”
As Ginga says goodbye to Kira and Shinobu, Kira and Shinobu would wave their hands goodbye to Ginga after they were able to get delighted with the advice they need to remember. “Okay! Goodbye, Ginga-san! Have a safe trip to your home and don’t forget your souvenir!”
Ginga waves his hands goodbye and then, saying to Kira and Shinobu. “Okay! I will!”
Ginga, Atsuki and Sōichi would leave the basketball court to go to the Nagoya Station in Nakamura-ku as they’ll depart the station to go to the bullet train that will about to depart soon to travel east in Tokyo. Jun narrates the ending of the story. “As the parting was a complete end of Ginga’s journey in Nagoya, this was the time that Kira and Shinobu would finally start working together to form their own team. They would be joined by their new friends from the Todoroki Gakuen Elementary School to form their own group of bravehearts. It is now known as the Bravehearts of Nagoya. They would make Mizuho being a heartful area to make their community’s future brighter by helping their friends through their courage and hoping to build their group to be more like us.”
The flashback would end, which leads to the scene of Subaru narrating the story of how Ginga’s journey started. “As for my father, he would never forget his journey in Nagoya and the red rubber band he was given by Kira Ōgaki, this would symbolize courage that gives him full motivation to work as a scout. Although he is also a coach, he will make sure that he’ll try his best to find more young players who has potential and bring them into stardom in the future.”
“So, does that mean the story is over?” asked Tomoka.
“Yep. The story is finish, Tomoka” said Subaru.
“But this is just the beginning of his own journey. There are more stories about his past when he travels around the country like heading to bigger cities and organizing his own activities to make the young players grow their potential” said Jun.
“Wow! I believe that this story would be prepared for us to go to Nagoya on Tuesday and Wednesday” said Aoi.
“Hopefully, we’ll meet them very soon” said Kazunari.
“I agree, Kazunari and Aoi! Things will be gone fantastic when we’ll meet them after my father did six years ago. There has to be a coincidence to see this!” said Subaru.
“I have to more honest with you, Subaru. Your father had a great job in bringing young players grow their potential after observing them and teaching them” said Mimi.
“I have a feeling that he should bring some even better to grow their relationship with them as better as it gets” said Kotori Katsura.
“You got it, Kotori! Since Ginga’s story would be too long and we might be busy for a few days, we might save the next part for a few days” said Jun.
“While the journey had just started for us in the Fuchsia and Celadon Era, this will bring harmonious peace and prosperity in making our future brighter” said Subaru.
“I believe that you’re right about what you said about the future, Subaru-san. I think that it’s time for us to grow our courage with our friends and have a harmonious enjoyment in the community!” said Tomoka.
“You got it, Tomoka-san! We’ll continue the story for another time. I hope that we’re no longer busy soon. Right, Jun-san?” said Subaru.
“Yeah, Subaru! Let’s keep our courage for ourselves and win the Fuchsia and Celadon Dragons Tournament!” said Jun.
“Yeah!” said the Bravehearts and their allies including the Rainbow Angels, who are ready to compete at the Fuchsia and Celadon Dragons Tournament that will be held at the Misawa Resort Hotel.

This special chapter will be a prelude to the two-day vacation of the Bravhearts in Nagoya as you’ll finally recognize Kira Ōgaki and Shinobu Miyamoto, who were part of the Bravehearts of Nagoya. The big thing for this is because since I made this special update, this will be their second appearance overall, but their first appearance in the main part for both Kira and Shinobu. Both Kira and Shinobu alongside the Bravehearts will be the main characters to appear in the next volume, Volume 8, as they’ll be meeting with the Bravehearts during the two-day vacation of the Bravehearts in Nagoya. Now, there’s only one more special update to post and it will be an omake. This omake will be a crossover of Ongaku Shoujo and Seishin Buta Yarou Series and it will be featuring Eri Kumagai and Mai Sakurajima. I’ll see you on July 28 (Sunday) for the third omake of Rooks, Knights and Bravehearts to finish the second anniversary of the series!
Part 2
The next day, at Mizuho-ku, Ginga, Atsuki and Sōichi are going to the local basketball court that was located near the Showa High School. They were a lot of basketball players playing in the court against each other. Some were junior college students, but others were young students coming from elementary school and high school.
Ginga, Atsuki and Sōichi would be thrilled to see a familiar face. It was Tetsuro Yamaguchi, a former player from the Ōta Blue Wind. Tetsuro Yamaguchi played with the Blue Wind for four years and was part of the championship team last season.
“Hey, look who’s here!” said Ginga.
“It’s Tetsuro Yamaguchi!” said Atsuki.
“He’s training some of his boys from his own basketball camp” said Sōichi.
“Let’s reach him out” said Ginga.
Atsuki and Sōichi nod on their faces. “Okay!”
Ginga, Atsuki and Sōichi walk to the court to meet with Tetsuro Yamaguchi.
“Oh! Ginga! It’s nice to see you again!” said Tetsuro.
“Yep. I’m retiring from basketball after we helped together to lead the Ōta Blue Wind into the Kanto Regional Basketball League Division 2. What about you? Are you still playing?” said Ginga.
“Of course not, Ginga! I’m still playing basketball. I’m currently playing on a new team” said Tetsuro.
“What team are you playing right now?” asked Atsuki.
“I’m currently part of the Omiya Golden Wings basketball team as a backup power forward” said Tetsuro.
“Well, you’re about to get old right now, Tetsuro. How will you last for your team?” said Sōichi.
“I might be planning to stay with them for another year since we’re behind the Top 5 teams in the league” said Tetsuro.
“Have you ever planned to train these young guys out here?” asked Atsuki.
“Yes, of course, Atsuki-san. I was assigned to train these guys for a project of my own” said Tetsuro.
“I guess that you’re born in this city, Tetsuro” said Ginga.
“Yeah, Ginga-san. I was born there, raised and currently residing here in Mizuho, Nagoya” said Tetsuro.
“That was so nice, Tetsuro. I hope that when you’ll retire soon, you’ll have to help them grow their potential to become superstars in the future” said Atsuki.
“You got it, Atsuki-san! I’m already 33 years old and I’m still playing without losing my motivation” said Tetsuro.
“I agree. Now, the main reason why we’re all here is because I already started scouting some young players around the country. I would be glad if I’m going to scout and train them” said Ginga.
“Well, you can do that whatever you want. I would be glad that you’ll help them to make themselves stronger when they’re going pro” said Tetsuro.
“Okay!” said Ginga before he would talk to Atsuki and Sōichi. “Atsuki. Sōichi. Let’s train and scout them!”
“Okay!” said Atsuki and Sōichi.
Ginga, Atsuki and Sōichi would start observing the young players coming from different schools. In one time, Tetsuro talks to Kyōtarō Okanishi, a first year middle school student from the Todoroki Gakuen High School.
“I want you to shoot the ball like this” said Tetsuro as he demonstrates the jump shot of his own. Kyōtarō would show his shooting move as he releases the ball while jumping high from the ground. The ball drives to the basket.
“I did it, Tetsuro-sensei!” said Kyōtarō Okanishi.
“That’s good. Now, all you have to do is making the fadeaway shot like” said Tetsuro. Tetsuro would step back before shooting the ball with the fadeaway. “Now, give it a try.”
“Okay!” said Kyōtarō. Kyōtarō would do the way Tetsuro did and it was successful. “And I did it again!”
“Nice job, Kyōtarō! You made the job done! Hopefully, you’ll be able to use that shot when you’re open in the corner or the post” said Tetsuro.
“Okay!” said Kyōtarō.
As Kyōtarō gets his boost in shooting outside shots in the paint, Ginga writes his comment on Kyōtarō’s shooting ability. Then, Atsuki and Sōichi teach the young boys to perform playmaking skills while Ginga gives them some advises, in making their potential grater in the future.
While the young boys are getting busy, a yellow-haired boy approaches to meet Ginga. Ginga was unfazed when he sees that guy.
“What is your name?” asked Ginga.
The yellow-haired boy would say his name. “My name is Keisuke Nishio. I’m a fourth grader student from the Todoroki Gakuen Elementary School.”
Ginga would understand the name of the little boy before saying to him. “It’s nice to see you. So, what do you want to know?”
“I want to know about the basic skills in inside shooting” said Keisuke.
“Okay, I will accept your question, Keisuke” said Ginga.
“Really. Wow! Thanks. I don’t know what to say, but can I tell your name?” said Keisuke. Keisuke doesn’t know Ginga yet.
Ginga smiles to Keisuke with his charisma never paid off. “My name is Ginga Hasegawa. But you can call me Ginga if you want. I’m a two-time champion in the Tokyo Prefectural Basketball League with the Ōta Brave Warriors and the Ōta Blue Wind.”
Keisuke would finally understand Ginga’s name for the first time. So, Keisuke smiles to Ginga. “Oh, okay. Thanks, Ginga-san. Now, tell it to me about inside shooting.”
“Okay! Now, in order to shoot the ball inside the zone, there are two things you can do. One is to do the layup and two is to do the dunk” said Ginga.
“Have you learned those moves?” asked Keisuke.
“Of course not, Keisuke! I’m learning to shoot layups, floaters and runners, but also I’m good in dunking the ball with one hand” said Ginga. Ginga would continue to explain his answer while Keisuke looks confident to know inside shooting. “To shoot the ball with the layup, you must be good in defending the court with your moves. Getting an easy layup would allow you get points in the game. Also, if you’re agile to shoot, then you’ll be able to get the job done after going to the right spot to shoot. On the other hand, to shoot the ball with the dunk, you must be more capable of jumping in the court. If you’re too small in your height, you can’t dunk the ball yet. But if you develop your athleticism, you’ll be able to dunk.”
“Well, that was too long to explain, but I get it now” said Keisuke.
“When you’re shooting the ball inside the paint, you’ll get easy scoring for your team. Just like my old friends in Ōta, they know how to develop themselves from shooting easy shots in the paint. I know that you’ll know their skills before you’ll inspire them” said Ginga.
“I will have to try that skill, Ginga, but thanks for that advice” said Keisuke.
“You’re welcome” said Ginga. Keisuke smiles to Ginga, thanking him before leaving.
Later, a pick-up game between the two teams in the court. The players wearing white shirts are more aggressive while the other team wearing orange shirts are good in playmaking. Keisuke and Kyōtarō are wearing orange shirts while playing in the court.
Keisuke would shoot the ball with the easy layups with the help of his two schoolmates from Todoroki while Kyōtarō performs the fake on his opponent before doing the iso move to drive away from him and shoots the ball with the fadeaway shot.
“That guy seemed to be talented, Ginga. He’s also to shoot the ball with his motivation” said Atsuki.
“What that yellow-haired guy is surely going to be a beast when he’s on the run” said Sōichi.
“I agree to those statements, Atsuki and Sōichi. They’re just that good with their moves, using their attributes they have. I would be great if they have a lot of potential to improve their moves when they grow up” said Ginga.
“I guess so, but it depends on their role in the team” said Atsuki.
“Probably, they’re going to see some strong players just like the other areas in Kanto, but I would be rest assured that these guys in Nagoya may have a lot of potential to grow when they’re joining the ranks with the top teams in the future” said Sōichi.
“Yeah, that’s true, Sōichi. I hope that they’re about to take over the court once they’re good enough to improve their skills and attributes, using their tendencies to show their mastery. I bet these gems may end up getting picked by top teams and probably, they’re going to give them a test to play for them” said Ginga.
“If I remember correctly, some local leagues have that kind of system, but for the top leagues, they invest players through their own scouting just like they have in football. It may be way competitive when it comes to free agency singings that will complete their roster for the season” said Atsuki.
“I would love to see them growing their potential, Ginga. Like in bigger cities, they’re going to show they have done with their moves. It would be a big catch for them to get signed by either local or bigger teams, depends on their abilities and their performance in collegiate leagues around the country” said Sōichi.
“I bet that I agree with the other, Sōichi. There are many collegiate scouts working to find their big names to join the team. This would give them an opportunity to train them and then, when they’re about to graduate, they’ll have their own worlds to decide on” said Ginga.
“On the bright side, Ginga, some players started underrated and they have gone improving with their new moves they taught from their mentors” said Atsuki.
“Mentors would allow these young guys to get trained more, in order to make them stronger through their untapped potential system. A lot of developing players have gone doing that when their team is considered contending for the championship” said Sōichi.
“According to some analysts, many players started to grow their potential when they go a monstrous performance against their opponents on a big game. A big game can make a big impact on the players from both players. This was applied to the final four of the prefectural tournaments and even, summer leagues around the country except for colder areas such as Hokkaido and Aomori” said Ginga.
“I agree about the big games, Ginga. When we’re young, we used to get monstrous performances in big games in Ōta. I bet that we never got paid off when we got signed by a prefectural league team” said Atsuki.
“Yeah, Hirose-san. That’s what they do in the local leagues when they have flexibility, athleticism and intangibles improved during an intense training. I would conclude that these players may end up getting boosts in their tendencies while allowing to have new abilities in their play” said Ginga.
“The other thing is that the players who have low ratings may end up impressing the scouts if they want to prove themselves to be better” said Sōichi.
“That’s right, Sōichi-san. It feels like we’re getting a lot of young players that have good potential in their future. Also, thanks to Tetsuro, these players might end up getting their own runs while keeping it real to be motivated as what Tetsuro said” said Ginga.
“Of course, they’ll do that, Ginga!” said Sōichi.
“From my observation of those guys, I think that they’re ready to get balling with their moves when they’re heading to college and eventually, the league” said Atsuki.
“I agree. In fact, this will shape the future of basketball in our country to be brighter as always” said Ginga.
“Yeah!” said Atsuki and Sōichi.
Ginga, Atsuki and Sōichi would continue watching the pick-up game, which is eventually won by the players wearing orange shirts. Later, a drill activity was set where the players from two groups will test their strength in shooting the ball. Another activity would be the fast break intense play. This will allow the players to show their playmaking skills in the court by doing the pass-and-assist play and the easy pick pocketing play.
After the young players are exhausted, they would be given water breaks. Ginga, Atsuki, Sōichi and Tetsuro would give the young boys some bottled water, so that these young boys will not get dehydrated.
Later, the four men would give the young players a tour to different indoor gymnasiums in the city. This also includes the Nagoya Higashi Sport Center, Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium, Biwajima Sport Center and Daido Steel Hoshizaki Gym. They even visit the Aichi Mizuho College Gymnasium, which was used by the basketball program of their school, and the Mizuho Gymnasium.
As it reaches five in the afternoon, Ginga, Atsuki, Sōichi and Tetsuro give the young boys some free shirts for their souvenir. The young boys would thank them for meeting them earlier.
Before they would move on to their next destination later in the evening, they would go to the local restroom in the Showa High School. Even it’s summer, the school still would be closed by six in the evening.
Suddenly, as he goes out of the restroom, a young lavender-haired girl would bump onto him.
Ginga and a young lavender-haired girl scratch their heads after getting bumped with each other. “Ow!”
“That hurts. Watch were you going!” said the young lavender-haired girl.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t know that you’re going to the restroom to take a break” said Ginga.
“Yeah” said the young lavender-haired girl. Then, she notices something on Ginga. “Hmmm. Is that a rubber band you’re wearing?”
“Oh, yes. That is mine. Why did you ask for that?” said Ginga.
“Well, I want to know if there is a shop, I need to go to buy that rubber band” said the young lavender-haired girl.
“I see. Well, there is a sports shop located in Yandomichi Shopping District. That’s where you can buy some accessories for yourself” said Ginga.
“Oh, okay! Thanks! By the way, I will introduce myself before I’ll go” said the young lavender-haired girl.
“Okay, then” said Ginga.
The lavender-haired girl would introduce to Ginga as Kira Ōgaki. “My name is Kira Ōgaki. I’m only seven years old and I’m a fan of basketball. Also, I love pop music, mostly in anime.”
“Nice to meet you, Kira. My name is Ginga Hasegawa. So, you can call me Ginga-san if you want” said Ginga.
“Okay! Well, I have to go now, Ginga” said Kira Ōgaki.
“Sure!” said Ginga.
“Bye, Ginga!” said Kira Ōgaki as she cheerfully leaves to go to the restroom. Ginga feels confident that he finally meets a young girl, who is more compared to Tomoka.
Then, Atsuki and Sōichi arrives later after finishing taking a toilet break.
“Ginga, are you alright?” asked Atsuki.
“Well, I can’t believe that I’m okay right now. I know that it hurts my head, but I’m good” said Atsuki.
“Oh, I see” said Atsuki and Sōichi.
“So, about that, who do you talk with?” asked Sōichi.
“It’s a young girl named Kira Ōgaki. She’s on a young age and she loves to play with her friends every weekend” said Ginga.
“Wow! That gal seems to be cheerful. I mean, she had high hopes to play basketball” said Atsuki.
“But of course, Atsuki. She is always wearing rubber bands when she’s entering school” said Ginga.
“Ah, that’s nice” said Atsuki.
“Well, I hope that you’ll be able to scout her. I mean, she has a lot of things about basketball just like your son had” said Sōichi.
“I think it is a yes, Sōichi. But anyway, what should we do next?” said Ginga.
“Shall we go to a restaurant to treat these young guys?” asked Sōichi.
“You bet!” said Ginga.
Later, Ginga, Atsuki, Sōichi and Tetsuro accompanies the young boys to a restaurant known as the Slice and Dice with Chiaki Ishikawa in Yandomichi Shopping District. At that restaurant, it specializes flame-grilled dishes as well as barbeques and skewers. They also cook tebasaki and red miso.
While he was fall in line, Ginga would order his food before he receives the food from the waitress. As he sits down with Atsuki, Sōichi and Tetsuro, a young garnet-haired guy, who looks resembled to his son Subaru, approaches Ginga. He would be joined by Kira Ōgaki.
“Well, it appears that this girl is following you” said Tetsuro.
“Oh! I never saw that coming, but hey, she’s just buying a rubber band” said Ginga.
“Yep. Shinobu Miyamoto and I were buying some accessories and gears at the sports shot you said earlier” said Kira.
“It was nice to see her happy” said the garnet-haired boy.
“Well, don’t mention it. I believe that she’s much cute, aren’t she?” said Ginga.
“Yep” said the garnet-haired boy. He would continue to talk to Ginga as he introduces himself just like Kira did. “By the way, my name is Shinobu Miyamoto. I’m a student from the Todoroki Gakuen Elementary School, playing for my school’s basketball team.”
Ginga shakes hands with Shinobu before talking to him. “It’s nice to see you, Shinobu-san. My name is Ginga Hasegawa. And this is my friends of mine. Atsuki Hirose. Sōichi Maeyama. And finally, Tetsuro Yamaguchi.”
“Oh, I recognize Yamaguchi-san, Ginga. He’s aiming to become a trainer once he retires from basketball soon” said Shinobu Miyamoto.
“I’m sure that your statements are true, Shinobu. I’m already having a plan but enough talking about this. For now, it’s great that you’re here to enjoy our day” said Tetsuro.
“Yeah!” said Shinobu.
“Where are you from, little girl?” asked Sōichi.
Kira doesn’t know about Ginga’s friends, but she gives in. “I’m from Mizuho. My family had been living in that area for a long time. Oh, by the way, if you don’t know me yet, I’ll introduce myself. My name is Kira Ōgaki and I’m a girl who loves basketball and music.”
“Nice to meet you, Kira-san. And I believe that you have talent in basketball, right?” said Sōichi.
“Yeah” said Kira.
“Well, you have in luck because we got an MVP in our table” said Sōichi.
“Of course, I’m the MVP. I didn’t mention about that earlier” said Ginga, who is laughing nervously.
“Oh, I get it now. So, you retired from basketball, isn’t that right?” said Kira.
“Yeah” said Ginga.
“Then, I want to know that you have a lot of moves you learned in the past. I want to do the same thing, but I didn’t know it yet” said Kira.
“I understand what you’re saying, Kira-san. You see, my son Subaru had taught a little girl named Tomoka the moves he had including the jump shot. I bet that you can have that shot too” said Ginga.
“Then, teach it to me! I know that you’re strong!” said Kira.
“I believe in you, Kira-san. I must let you know that I retired. I’m currently busy because I’m currently travelling around the country with my friends. But since you’re admired and cute, I will teach you the moves I got” said Ginga.
Kira was surprised to hear Ginga’s words, which makes her motivate to have a basketball move soon. “Okay!”
“But before that, let’s eat first!” said Shinobu Miyamoto.
“Okay!” said Ginga, Atsuki, Sōichi and Tetsuro.
Later, Shinobu and Kira would sit beside Ginga while they would be joined by Atsuki, Sōichi and Tetsuro. They eat their food together before they feel good when they ate the last bite of it.
“I never heard that you’re a little girl to play basketball, Kira-san. How did you start playing that sport?” said Ginga.
Kira Ōgaki would smile to Ginga after liking his question. “I’m glad that you asked me for that. Well, then, I’ll tell you a story.” Kira would explain her answer to Ginga, Atsuki, Sōichi and Tetsuro. “When I was walking in the streets, I was able to see the view of the city every time I finished my time in school. But one day, a basketball was rolled over and it stops at my shoes. Then, I was found out that I finally met Shinobu Miyamoto.”
“Then, how did you meet her?” asked Atsuki.
“When I was playing a pick-up game with my friends, I was able to enjoy it by winning matches to keep the court for our team. So, when I asked Kira to get the ball back, she respectfully passes the ball to me. I believe that Kira was using her hands to pass the ball. I’m surprised to see her pass that was resembled to mine. And that’s why Kira would finally start playing basketball with me in a one-on-one match.” Shinobu would explain about how he and Kira met with each other.
“When I played basketball for the first time, it was awesome, and I found out that I finally had a friend who played basketball” said Kira.
“That seems to be interesting with your relationship with him, Kira” said Sōichi.
“Even that you’re young, you’re not yet the right time to be with him for a long time” said Tetsuro.
“Oh! I never expect to say that word, but I wasn’t afraid of him after all” said Kira.
“Kira is cheerful to me and she never been shy at all” said Shinobu.
“I understand what you said, Kira. You must be more motivated when it comes to boys like him” said Atsuki.
“Of course, not! I have two older brothers taking the admiration of me because they’re ambitious to girls every time they see them” said Kira.
“Are they ambitious enough to admire girls?” asked Sōichi.
“Yeah!” said Kira.
“It was great to have Kira on my side after she impressed me of my moves. That’s why the two of us are hoping to work together someday” said Shinobu.
“Good for you, Shinobu and Kira! I hope that your will have your team to create. If you’re going to build your team, they need to synchronize with each other through communication and teamwork” said Ginga.
“Yeah!” said Shinobu and Kira.
“I think that I’m done eating right now” said Tetsuro before he stands up.
As Tetsuro is about to leave the table, Ginga asks him. “Where are you going?”
“I have to meet the young boys about what to do for tomorrow. I’ll be back for a while” said Tetsuro.
“Okay, Yamaguchi-san!” said Ginga.
“So, Ginga, do you have children in your family?” asked Kira.
“Yes, I have. My wife and I have our only child. His name is Subaru Hasegawa. He wants to follow my footsteps in becoming the best player in the ward. As you all know, I’m the best player in Ōta by the time when I bagged the championship with Keishin three times in a row” said Ginga.
“What level is Subaru?” asked Kira.
“He’s currently a fifth grader in Kasuragi. He’s not graduated yet, but he’s planning to enroll to a bigger school after he graduates from elementary school” said Ginga.
“Wow! Good for him, Ginga-san. I’m sure that he’s going to push his career going high if he’s going to score more points coming off from the bench. I think that he’s going to be a great guy to watch out” said Kira.
“Yeah, I agree!” said Ginga.
“I will let you know that I had been planning on joining the basketball team in Todoroki if I’m good enough to show my skills, but I’m just started to have practice, thanks to Shinobu” said Kira.
“Well, if you want to improve your skills, then you have to keep on practicing your moves, so that you’ll master in the end. Isn’t that easy?” said Ginga.
“Yeah, I want to do this, Ginga, so that when I’m growing up, I’ll be joining the basketball team very soon’ said Kira.
“Kira is always energetic when it comes to watching basketball games at home, but also she’s passionate to play music. I think that she’s interested in those hobbies, Ginga” said Shinobu.
“Oh, I get it now. So, Kira, do you want to get your skills improved?” said Ginga.
“Yeah!” said Kira.
“Then, come at the basketball court tomorrow at ten in the morning. I’m going to leave Nagoya to go back home at noon. Okay?” said Ginga.
“Okay, Ginga-san!” said Kira.
“Alright, that’s great! Then, I’ll accompany her to make sure that she’s ready to show her moves to you!” said Shinobu.
“Well, be my guest, Shinobu. I’m sure that you and Kira would get along in the court, but when you guys grow up, then you’ll be delighted to have guts to show your moves. Then, by the end of the day, you’ll have a courage in your heart once I’ll teach some moves to you” said Ginga.
“Giving a courage to make me delighted to play basketball with you, Ginga. I don’t want to lose my courage after all!” said Kira.
“Yeah! So, I’ll be waiting for you to meet tomorrow, Kira and Shinobu. Let’s make this training some special for you two” said Ginga.
“You got it!” said Kira and Shinobu.
The next day, at the local basketball court in Mizuho, Ginga shows his moves to Kira. He demonstrates the crossover move and the behind the back move. Later, Kira would start practicing those moves until she finally learns it perfectly. Then, Ginga would perform the layup and the floater, respectively. Kira would be able to improve her inside scoring by increasing her acceleration when going to shoot the ball with the layup and the floater. Ginga was impressed of Kira’s moves when he sees her athleticism. Shinobu would also be taught by Ginga when Ginga shows his moves to Shinobu to do the same moves he demonstrated those to Kira earlier. And to Ginga’s surprise, Shinobu would never miss his moves.
Finally, a two-on-one match between Ginga and Kira and Shinobu. Despite he retired from basketball, Ginga was able to play hard with his courage in his heart. Kira and Shinobu was able to work together with the moves they learned from Ginga and were able to score points together. At the end, Kira and Shinobu win the match after Kira passes the ball to Shinobu with the bounce pass before Shinobu goes for the contact layup over Ginga to score the final point of the match.
Ginga, Kira and Shinobu were exhausted after the match and they were able to enjoy themselves, smiling to each other.
“Man, that was awesome!” said Shinobu.
“It feels like playing basketball with Ginga was so much fun!” said Kira.
“Yep. I have been playing basketball for years when I was young, but now I can teach the young guys to learn the moves. I’m pleased with your performance, Kira and Shinobu. Well done!” said Ginga.
Kira and Shinobu smile to Ginga after Ginga was delighted to see their performance great during the one-on-two match. “Thank you very much, Ginga-san!”
“I can’t wait to show my new moves when I’m going to team up with my friends once we’re having a match against my opponents soon” said Shinobu.
“As for me, I’ll have to keep on practicing my moves, especially the floater, which was so fantastic!” said Kira.
“Well, you can use those moves when you’re in the court play with your friends to show how it’s done. That’s the key to get your fighting spirit in playing basketball” said Ginga.
“You betcha, Ginga-san!” said Kira and Shinobu.
“Always use your fighting spirit to give more strength to play hard in the court. You don’t want to forget this key. I believe in you, guys!” said Ginga.
“Okay! I’ll remember this, Ginga-san!” said Kira and Shinobu.
Atsuki would run to meet with Ginga. “Ginga-san!”
“Oh, Hirose-san. What is it?” asked Ginga.
“It’s already 11:34! We must go back home to Tokyo!” said Atsuki.
“Oh, my goodness! I never thought about this that I have trained for a long hour. Okay, then, I’ll wait for me, Hirose-san” said Ginga.
“Sure, Ginga-san” said Atsuki.
Ginga would pack his things including his basketball he used earlier and then, he goes on a little minute of shower. Then, he changes his clothes from plain white shirt to casual shirt to fit his style when he’s going home. Ginga would meet Kira and Shinobu as he is about say goodbye to them. “I’m going to leave now, Kira and Shinobu. My friends are waiting for me to go back home to Tokyo.”
“Oh, that’s unfortunate, Ginga-san. I believe that I have to work hard in practicing my moves and I have to remember your advice earlier” said Kira.
“I think that I would do the same thing Kira said, Ginga-san” said Shinobu.
“I understand, guys. But you know what, I’m so proud of the two of you when you made your moves so fantastic. I can’t believe that you have a potential in becoming a basketball superstar in the future. You’ll be able to get courage of being a superstar when you grow up” said Ginga.
“Okay, we got it, Ginga-san!” said Kira and Shinobu.
Kira would finally give a red rubber band to Ginga. “By the way, Ginga-san, I want to give this to you.”
As Ginga looks at the red rubber band, he’s finally getting courage too to thank Kira. “Oh, that’s marvelous, Kira! I never thought how I wore this when I was playing in high school, but that will make me remembered of wearing this. Thanks, Kira-san. Where did you buy it anyway?”
“I bought it in the sporting shop in Yandomichi Shopping District. You must remember me when you’re wearing this” said Kira.
“Sure, Kira. I’ll wear it!” said Ginga.
“Ginga-san, I know that you’re going to travel around the country, but I hope that you’ll be able find more players with potential being superstars in the future. So, that’s why you must keep up the good work in becoming a great scout in the country” said Shinobu.
“Okay. I’ll have to do it with your advice. Thanks for that, Shinobu-san” said Ginga.
“You’re welcome!” said Shinobu.
Before Ginga leaves, he finally gives Kira and Shinobu the picture of his championship team last season. “Before I go, this is for you, Kira and Shinobu. That’s the picture of my former team’s championship roster when I led the Ōta Blue Wind into a championship. You must remember this picture as a farewell gift to me. Okay?”
“Okay!” said Kira and Shinobu.
“I’ll never forget that we meet each other, Ginga-san!” said Kira.
“You’re the man who has high hopes and dreams to become a scout! We believe in you!” said Shinobu.
“Thanks, guys! You are kind to say that” said Ginga, smiling to Kira and Shionbu with courage. “Now, I have to go now. Remember the advice that I give it you. See you soon!”
As Ginga says goodbye to Kira and Shinobu, Kira and Shinobu would wave their hands goodbye to Ginga after they were able to get delighted with the advice they need to remember. “Okay! Goodbye, Ginga-san! Have a safe trip to your home and don’t forget your souvenir!”
Ginga waves his hands goodbye and then, saying to Kira and Shinobu. “Okay! I will!”
Ginga, Atsuki and Sōichi would leave the basketball court to go to the Nagoya Station in Nakamura-ku as they’ll depart the station to go to the bullet train that will about to depart soon to travel east in Tokyo. Jun narrates the ending of the story. “As the parting was a complete end of Ginga’s journey in Nagoya, this was the time that Kira and Shinobu would finally start working together to form their own team. They would be joined by their new friends from the Todoroki Gakuen Elementary School to form their own group of bravehearts. It is now known as the Bravehearts of Nagoya. They would make Mizuho being a heartful area to make their community’s future brighter by helping their friends through their courage and hoping to build their group to be more like us.”
The flashback would end, which leads to the scene of Subaru narrating the story of how Ginga’s journey started. “As for my father, he would never forget his journey in Nagoya and the red rubber band he was given by Kira Ōgaki, this would symbolize courage that gives him full motivation to work as a scout. Although he is also a coach, he will make sure that he’ll try his best to find more young players who has potential and bring them into stardom in the future.”
“So, does that mean the story is over?” asked Tomoka.
“Yep. The story is finish, Tomoka” said Subaru.
“But this is just the beginning of his own journey. There are more stories about his past when he travels around the country like heading to bigger cities and organizing his own activities to make the young players grow their potential” said Jun.
“Wow! I believe that this story would be prepared for us to go to Nagoya on Tuesday and Wednesday” said Aoi.
“Hopefully, we’ll meet them very soon” said Kazunari.
“I agree, Kazunari and Aoi! Things will be gone fantastic when we’ll meet them after my father did six years ago. There has to be a coincidence to see this!” said Subaru.
“I have to more honest with you, Subaru. Your father had a great job in bringing young players grow their potential after observing them and teaching them” said Mimi.
“I have a feeling that he should bring some even better to grow their relationship with them as better as it gets” said Kotori Katsura.
“You got it, Kotori! Since Ginga’s story would be too long and we might be busy for a few days, we might save the next part for a few days” said Jun.
“While the journey had just started for us in the Fuchsia and Celadon Era, this will bring harmonious peace and prosperity in making our future brighter” said Subaru.
“I believe that you’re right about what you said about the future, Subaru-san. I think that it’s time for us to grow our courage with our friends and have a harmonious enjoyment in the community!” said Tomoka.
“You got it, Tomoka-san! We’ll continue the story for another time. I hope that we’re no longer busy soon. Right, Jun-san?” said Subaru.
“Yeah, Subaru! Let’s keep our courage for ourselves and win the Fuchsia and Celadon Dragons Tournament!” said Jun.
“Yeah!” said the Bravehearts and their allies including the Rainbow Angels, who are ready to compete at the Fuchsia and Celadon Dragons Tournament that will be held at the Misawa Resort Hotel.

This special chapter will be a prelude to the two-day vacation of the Bravhearts in Nagoya as you’ll finally recognize Kira Ōgaki and Shinobu Miyamoto, who were part of the Bravehearts of Nagoya. The big thing for this is because since I made this special update, this will be their second appearance overall, but their first appearance in the main part for both Kira and Shinobu. Both Kira and Shinobu alongside the Bravehearts will be the main characters to appear in the next volume, Volume 8, as they’ll be meeting with the Bravehearts during the two-day vacation of the Bravehearts in Nagoya. Now, there’s only one more special update to post and it will be an omake. This omake will be a crossover of Ongaku Shoujo and Seishin Buta Yarou Series and it will be featuring Eri Kumagai and Mai Sakurajima. I’ll see you on July 28 (Sunday) for the third omake of Rooks, Knights and Bravehearts to finish the second anniversary of the series!
