Re: World of Warships Admirals Lounge
Since I played all the ships, excluding CV, I'm gonna give you a nice comparison. Beware: I'm not talking about mid tier ship, I'm talking about only the ultimate tier X class, so here goes:
US DDs have lots of guns while IJN have torps so US will go after DDs while IJN will go ninja torp BBs
Both Gearing and Shimakaze now have almost the same concealment value (7.6 km for Gearing and 7.4 km for Shimakaze).
Shimakaze has 15 torp, at 15km range, each do 23K damage max / torp. Average damage would be around 13-15K/torp
Shimakaze has very good gun but its turning and rate of fire is worthless, almost outright useless.
Shimakaze turning radius is average. Shimakaze speed is great at 40 kts. Acceleration is so so
Gearing has 10 torp, at 16.7km range, each do 17K damage max / torp. Average damage would be around 10-12K/torp
Gearing has very good gun, very good turning rate, and has the fastest rate of fire in game.
Gearing turning radius is good. Gearing speed is good at 38 kts. Acceleration is good.
Conclusion: I definitely almost never enjoy playing Shimakaze unless somehow, in the game, I'm the only Shimakaze and the enemy side has no Fletcher or Gearing. But it's fat chance. I love my Gearing a lot more, it's very versatile, its torp has good range and decent speed. Sure you can load the 20km torp into Shimakaze but your torp will be spotted sooner, Sticking to 15km torp range is best. Shimakaze has 15 torp per salvo but aside of the torp, it doesn't have much to speak of. Gearing on the other hand, has gun and very good armor that can withstand punishment from even Battleship AP/HE in case you make a mistake.
Same thing, Des Moines has an insane damage and ROF but Zao has torps which gives her more options of attack
Zao has 8km torp at 77 kts, perhaps, the fastest torp in the game. But here is problem:
1. At 10km range, Des Moines will kill the Zao in 45s. You can count on it, provided, you can approach the Des Moines to 8km range and launch your salvo before you die, then chances are, you gonna miss her is very high. Des Moines is very maneuverable, She will dodge your torp as long as the Des Moines is fully aware of your last attempt.
2. Zao vs Battleship, at 10km range, you can start praying to god he won't kill you outright. I do several citadels to the Zao and sink her outright from 10-15km. Remember, in the very rare event that the BB busy engage other ships, then, of course, you should win.
3. Do note that Zao torp is located at the very rear of the ship. To even do a torp run, you have to show the enemy your full broadside, at which point, anything will kill you very fast. I did 7 citadels in my Des Moines, in a single salvo to a Zao several time, it's not even rare. I always do 2-3 citadel per salvo to a Zao, in my Des Moines, and in my BB, and Zao always die trying to torp me. In 20 game, may be the Zao throw two torp salvo at me, at which, both misses.
What about Des Moines? Well shit, Des Moines is very manuverable, Des Moines is a gun boat, it can do damage to anyship, including Battleship, it has a very good conceament vs gun range either (13.6km spot range + 15.5km gun range). Des Moines have very good AA, very good armor if you angle it correctly. But the best feature of a Des Moines would be its 10 rpm ROF (if upgraded, 12.5 ROF). Each salvo from the Des Moines, if not Citadel, will still do solid 7-8K HP to a BB. Can you believe that 7000HP every 4s? Of course, Des Moines can switch into HE and burn the BB very fast, in fact, I think HE is turning a Des Moines into a new terrorist of Sea.
Additionally, any CV player spot the Des Moines will has her squadron full turn 180 degree. Why? Well, I'll be honest, my Des Moines chew all of 6 squadrons even before they can drop their payloads. So you guess. Shooting down over 30 planes+++ in my Des Moines per match is not even rare.
In fact, while I'm in my Des Moines, I fear nothing, as long as I'm escorting someone. Still, a single Des Moines can kill a small CA Taskforce consist of Baltimore, Mogami, and New Orleans and still walk out alive with around half health. And DD? They vaporized faster than steam.
You are half right for BBs .Since Montana and Iowa are not that good at penetrating (even to ships like Amagi).
You must be joking right? Montana and Iowa have the best armor penetration gun in game right now. Montana and Iowa has a powerful hull armor, much better than Yamato. The only weakness for Montana and Iowa is its deck armor. So, if you're a Yamato, stay away, try to hit the boiler at 20km range, you will most likely citadel both of them.
In short range? You're good as dead, you won't be able to penetrate its heavy armor especially at the boilers. Additionally, both the Iowa and the Montana has very good turret turning. They will surely kill you, with you won't even do any damage to them. 100%.
You're right about IJN BB has better situation for secondaries armaments but it's not that much better. And at the end of the day, you're still fucked anyway if you let any ship come close to your secondaries.
