That's pretty decent in my opinion... I can't remember how much I earned but I remember building the first two bridges and going into the mines to make ton of money. The first 5 runs took me about 2 to 3 hours each to get to the bottom floor.

Which out of all Harvest Moon/Rune Factory game would be the funniest/best to start with? That doesn't make you bored almost instantly? And which consoles would those games be for?

/me looks for emulators

well ive only played harvest moon series, and out of the two ive played i'd recommend grand bazaar as it's simpler to play than island of happiness and you dont pass out nearly as fast, im gonna get an emulator and try rune factory though wanna see what it's like

i always test DS games out first so i know if ill enjoy them, and it saves money XD

zad38:Well I'm pretty into Harvest Moon Series and it's counterpart Rune Factory. So I don't have to worry about not enjoying them. Since I came from the ages where you can only pick and carry one item without a racksack and complete a goal set under two and a half years. Welcome to Harvest Moon SNES, where things get truly fun.

I feel if you want a little bit of havoc mixed with selling your goods at a fast pace. Grand Bazaar is a good place to start.

You want a RPG with adventure and farming in one? Try Rune Factory 3 since it has a auto target system you can rely on.

If you want to feel what a traditional farming game is like on NDS? Play Harvest Moon DS (if you want the female version, do Harvest Moon DS Cute).

You want to start on a island, that needs your help to rebuild, and expand your farming horizon and bring people over to your island via your achievements and activities? Harvest Moon Island of Happiness and Harvest Moon Sunshine Island is a good place to start. Feels good to play a game similar to Lost in the Blue except farming with animals and more people.

If you really want to have something like Animal Crossing? I strongly insist you play Harvest Moon Twin Village. You can catch bugs, fishes, forage goods, farm and raise animals. This is all in one package with requests coming from villagers and completing your ultimate goal for the Harvest Goddess and your own final destination.

hatori, what rune factory do you think is the best one im thinking about buying one, im playing 3 on an emulator but im thinking bout maybe getting the ps3 one...

fair enough, i think only being able to pick one item at a time would be a pain though haha

Depends what you're looking for and how you want to interact with the characters in the game. If you have Wii already, you may as well buy one of the Rune Factory on the market now. You get to use your body movements to do interesting things. But if you want to experience on other consoles, consider find a game play video before buying it. So you know what you're getting into. Give me a moment to see if I can find out what you were referring to again.

Edit: Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny is the one you were mentioning that has PS3 and Wii as a base console where you can play the game. I think you're pretty limited if you want it on PS3 though. It's considerably good when I think about it, as long you can bear with the dubbed voice overs that is. I kind of liked my games undubbed or purely in Japanese.

I may as well mention that I don't own any of the Wii or PS3 consoles so I probably have overstated what I have in my possession. But I did liked the Rune Factory: Frontier on Wii where you can use your motions to do things. Otherwise you can play it like any normal controller to be honest. Just as long you're not a total perfectionist, you should enjoy the game.

Advice? Have a look at game play videos before buying it to see what you can experience. Especially crafting and boss videos are clear indicators of what you can expect as a highlight. Farming and interaction of villagers are another good video to watch as well.

thanks, i dont own a wii =( got bored with it haha, but i own a DS and PS3

Check my edited post. I keep typing and editing my posts.

I liked all the DS games of Rune Factory though. Played them all and enjoyed them. They need to fix a bug, which can't be fixed with NDS games, about the infinite baby birht in RF3.

Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny is pretty good as long you can bear some of the tedious moments of the game. Crafting and getting what you really want can burn you out so keep that in mind. This is for PS3 and Wii though.

thanks, ill have a look at gameplay first then =D

And if that doesn't make you want to buy it or not. You may as well have a look at the wiki and just browse around to see what kind of content is in that game. Most times I tend to play the game based on who's in the game and how they are designed... I'm kinda picky when it comes down to games and it's cast.

Here's the wiki for the game and it's general outline for it.

Make sure you pick the right game you want to browse more information about.

hey got any tips for getting deep into the mine on island of happiness?

I was playing Harvest Moon: A New Beginning 3DS and Rune Factory 3 DS. I'm also pretty much waiting for Rune Factory 4 (since I'm somewhat maxed out on RF3)

But it's a bit of a shame that the graphics is just slightly updated. They could have gotten the graphics similar to New Beginning.

Buy heaps of stamina recovery food and only fall One to Three Floors at a time and save each time you do it. Also note down which floors you want to get to so you don't miss it and manually dig the stairs out. After that save before going down that stairs. The lowest level you can get is floor 255 and you may have a chance to reach a dead end before that so be sure you save on each floor landing before moving.

By falling to deeper floors, you can just run around and eventually it will drop you a random number of floors. Try and save before you try dropping a floor, so you don't miss your target or get KO by the seven floor drops. Unless you have a stamina accessory to stop yourself getting KO'd in one shot for seven floor drops. Got to be pretty rich to recover over 100% standard stamina points.

This process can go for hours if you really stingy on your stamina purchases.

And... that's actually how I did it. Some people actually saved stamina recovery herbs to bypass the purchases. I didn't after I did the first run to just earn enough to buy a large amount of stamina recovery food to carry in the next trip. And... do the mining on a day that doesn't consume too much of your stamina.

And yes, it is possible to reach the lowest floor at the first run with tons of preparations and patience. This includes targeting particular floors for their valuable gems that can be sold for almost 100,000 to 200,000 G a piece.

One more thing I'll mention. If you go from Floor 1 to Floor 255, it will take almost six hours of in-game time to reach there. So be prepared to use a lot of in-game time to reach that point. I was able to manage my farm, relationships, activities and mining with a schedule. Yeah, I'm kind of pushed the limits of the game at times.

Well they could but that's a bit of a stretch considering what they can fit on a cartridge they're releasing at the moment. But yeah I have to agree on that point. You could say it's part of the NDS charm in a sense.

If you spare at least 20 hours of quick completion of all the quests and stuff... you can pretty much finish the game with extremely low levels and beat it without using too many spells. Not for the easy going.

On the other hand, if you play it normally and enjoy the game. You will spend just about 40 hours or more in the game and it's pretty fun. Assuming you like to farm, make relationships, complete quests and beat up some monsters to level up skills. One more thing, almost all the important skills require you to level up. So it's actually pretty fun if you like to feel your progress of your character. Did I mention you can transform into a sheep? It's pretty cute.

Down side? You can't choose your gender until you play Rune Factory 4. Rune Factory 2 you can by picking what gender you want your child to be and after that you'll be in control of your child for the second part of the game.

Buy Chocolate from the guy store... err... what's his name again... Chen? Buy a ton of them if you want to get to the bottom of the mine. Like a page full of chocolate for your first run if you not sure you have the patience to drop only one to floors at a time. Once you know how much you need, you can adjust from there.

Otherwise my advice to newer players who's more casual is actually buy about half a page and just mine the floor the first floor you come by that has gems that sell above 100,000 G per piece. Then work it from there. If you about to run out, leave the mine and take note on how much chocolate you used to mine for gems as well getting to that floor.

If you have the skills and the knowledge, you can make enough money just getting about 250,000 for the first run then buy heaps of chocolate to make the next run really easy. Make sure you know which floor you need to mine to get that result though.

EDIT on prices of gems: Sorry, I kind of forgot how much they're worth in this game. The average amount is about 10,000 G. For me, I ended up earning 250,000 G to 1,000,000 G per trip in the first year when I had a maxed out slot (first year tool) with the correct set up. Pretty sure there's only a few that would go that far and know how to mechanically get what they want to make that happen. Festival winnings helped a lot in getting the right stones too at the start.

At the lowest floors, gems tend to be A rank to S rank. So the prices jump up to 25,000 to 30,000 a piece for certain ones. But the amount of stones you go through is enormous to clear per floor. Took me 10 to 20 minutes to clear it at a rapid pace while saving and not falling or going down the stairs too early.

haha im glad i waited was ready to waste my money in the diner! ill do that i only want some orichalc to make some accessories

haha, shana or something then?

Yeah, the only problem is that I get lag sometime now and then... maybe desmume isn't the best emulator to play it on? Annoying when I got a short 1 sec lagspike during the battle with the 2 monsters when I grabbed a spear from the wep vendor guy.

Hmm, I'll probably roll pretty slowly. I've never played a game like this before. I maybe will try to start over on the nogba emulator but the sound have always been so screwed up on that emulator for me :/
