Usually you don't get charged by downloading copyright material, more like uploading it. So as long as you don't use torrent, pretty tough they could press you for anything, unless you try to sell it for personal gain.

Speaking of torrenting security, I always use PeerGuardian when I think the Gov't might be lurking. I dont need a big lawsuit to deal with on top of everything else.

PeerGuardian won't help you much lol. It simply takes them extra step (which mean cost more time and energy = money)

It does also slow you down though.

Any little bit helps and I usually dont notice any decrease in speed give a good number of peers.

I don't use peer protection tools really.

1) I don't really really think a program can stop the government from getting what they want. I mean, it's the government. Vast resources, etc.
2) Really does slow you down.

My friend hasn't got a C&D in the years he's been a pirate. He's 21 and he been on the computer since he was 12. I don't know if it was his luck, but I think they mostly target the big fish. And so keeping a low profile will help I believe. Although I upload and download so I have reason to worry regardless...

@Terumi: Torrent are better if their are a lot of seeders.
